Tejon Ranch Conservancy Symposium in Frazier Park
The Conservancy staff hosted a first of its kind symposium in Frazier Park as a means of outreach to the local community.
While the Tejon Ranch Company has long been a prominent presence in the area, the Tejon Ranch Conservancy is a new entity, formed by the Conservation and Land Use Agreement signed in 2008. 65 folks from the local area turned out to learn more about the mission and activities of the Conservancy and to ask questions and share refreshments.
Executive Director Tom Maloney and Conservation Science Director Mike White presented a detailed outline of the mission and efforts of the Conservancy and had a far-ranging question and answer session to directly answer questions from the attendees.
"I have lived here all of my life and never stepped foot on Tejon Ranch and I am very interested to learn about the work the Conservancy is doing to protect that land and opportunities to visit the Ranch", said one attendee.
The Tejon Ranch Conservancy places community outreach high on its list of priorities and has hosted many of the local residents on community hikes. In addition to the scheduled community hikes planned for 2011 (event link), there are several conservation projects planned that involve participants from nearby communities.
