Tejon Ranch Conservancy Hosts Plein Air Artists

August 04, 2010

The Conservancy is pleased to be providing the opportunity for local artists to come out and oil paint the summer vistas near Tejon Creek.

The majestic beauty of Tejon Ranch and the Tehachapi Range provide landscapes long depicted by the classic California Plein Air style and our guests created gorgeous depictions of the Ranch in an atmosphere of quiet camaraderie.

"En plein air" is a French expression for "in the open air," and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors with natural light.

"I really enjoyed painting at Tejon Ranch.", says Rich Gallego, one of the instructional artists who attended the event. "There is a palpable sense of history there.  As well, the landscape, with its golden rolling hills, is classic California.  A real joy to paint."

Debbie Nelson, a local resident and a student of Rich's, was thrilled to be able to visit the Ranch and paint the summer views. "Having lived in the area for several years in the 80's, I have always wanted access to the ranch.  This opportunity to see such a historical site was a real treat and a wonderful experience."

Tejon Ranch Conservancy offers this and other opportunities for the public to discover the riches of Tejon Ranch. Please check out our website   www.tejonconservancy.org for updates to the events calendar.
