Riparian and Wetland Enhancement

Enhancing the condition and function of riparian and wetland ecosystems has long been an important Conservancy objective. These habitats are incredibly important to the ecological function of the Ranch, even though they represent a relatively small proportion of the land area. Enhancement takes on many forms ranging from seasonal cattle grazing in pastures with vulnerable riparian habitat, to the complete exclusion of cattle and invasive wild pigs from small, sensitive wetland habitats. Neither are perfect solutions, but both are effective at improving habitat for wildlife (including game and non-game animal species) and invertebrate communities, enhancing water quality, and decreasing soil erosion and the spread of invasive, non-native plant species.
